About This Grant
Matching reimbursement grants for Carson business tenants and property owners to improve storefront aesthetics and attract visitors along major commercial corridors. First come, first served. Complimentary architectural services and application assistance are available. Funding is only guaranteed once a formal agreement is executed with the City.
$2.5K–$25K per storefront (dollar-for-dollar match required for amounts over $2,500).
For multi-tenant centers: up to $250K, based on a minimum total spend of $497,500 on eligible exterior improvements.
Rolling/ongoing on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are allocated. No standard frequency stated.
How You Can Use the Funds
- Exterior signs (new, repair, replacement; including neon/halo-lit)
- Awnings, canopies, sunshades (including perpendicular wall-mounted banners without signage)
- Painting/exterior surface treatments (stucco, tile, stone, brick)
- Asphalt paving; tile/decorative paver replacement; sidewalk/courtyard repaving (not in public right-of-way)
- Masonry walls/footings repair or replacement
- Outdoor lighting (new, repair, replacement)
- Decorative/security fencing (install, repair, replace)
- Plate glass window replacement; re-glazing; mullion changes with City architectural approval
- Outdoor landscaping and fountains
- Design and permit fees associated with eligible improvements
Documents Required
- Improvements must be permanently affixed to the property. All work shall be performed by Licensed Contractors to meet City Building Codes and Program Requirements. Project owners and/or contractors shall acquire all necessary permits.
Eligibility Requirements
- Applicant must be a Carson commercial business tenant and/or property owner.
- Project must be for exterior storefront aesthetic improvements.
- Priority given to properties on Carson St, Avalon Blvd, Main St, Sepulveda Blvd, and Figueroa St; other major streets near key intersections may be considered.
- Dollar-for-dollar match for awards over $2,500.
- Reimbursement basis: work must be completed and paid, with proof submitted, before reimbursement.
