About This Grant
Block Advisors by H&R Block provides $100,000 in grants and small business services to women-owned small businesses.
One grand prize winner will receive a small business grant of $50,000. Additional finalists will receive a grant of $12,500. All winners will also receive services from our experts:
- Small business taxes
- Bookkeeping
- Payroll
- Business structure analysis
How You Can Use the Funds
- Each winner will also receive access to: Tax Year 2023 or Tax Year 2024 Entity and 1040 Federal and State Tax Return Preparation, Block Advisors Full-Service Bookkeeping for one year from the date of the first 50% grant award, Block Advisors Payroll Plus for one year from the date of the first 50% grant award, Block Advisors Business Formation, and Block Advisors Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting.
- Each winner will be required to use the aforementioned tax preparation, bookkeeping and payroll services, and the aforementioned Business Formation and Beneficial Ownership Information Reporting services where needed, and all services must be complete within one year from the date of the first 50% grant award.
- Each winner will be required to provide at least quarterly updates until June 30, 2025, as requested by HRB, on its use of the Grant and how it has benefited the business. In addition, each winner will be required to participate in photoshoots and recorded interviews to document their progress.
- Each winner will be required to participate in a grant award presentation in their local area, at a date, time and location determined by HRB.
Documents Required
- The application should take about 2 hours to complete, not including preparation time. The application will gather information about the owner, the business, the owner’s small business journey, and the intended use, measurement, and impact of the grant funds and services received. Formats include multiple choice, yes/no, research-style, and short essay questions. These questions – especially the short-form questions – are an opportunity for you to differentiate your small business from other applicants. Examples of questions in the application include:
- Owner information: name, gender, contact
- Business information: type, size, sector, annual revenue, location
- Business journey: motivations for starting your business, barriers faced
- Grant use, impact, and measurement: how you intend on using the grant to achieve your small business goals, how this may impact your community, how you will measure your success
Eligibility Requirements
- Small businesses with at least 51% female ownership whose owners are 18 years or older and living in the U.S.
- The size of each business, with preference given to businesses with no more than 20 employees.
- The annual gross revenue of each business, with preference given to businesses with an annual revenue between $10,000-$500,000;
- How well each business articulated the plan for how the business would use the grant to grow their business in their submission.
- How well each business articulated its plan to grow in the next year, including, for example, through the hiring of employees, expansion of services, addition of service locations, or international expansion.
- How well the business aligns with one of HRB’s strategic priorities.
- How well the business promotes inclusivity and can demonstrate community impact.
- The quality and presentation of the business during Interviews.
