About This Grant
The Second Service Foundation’s Military Entrepreneur Challenge™ (MEC) is an annual pitch competition series designed to support and empower military-affiliated entrepreneurs. This program offers a unique opportunity for veterans, active-duty service members, military spouses, and Gold Star family members to compete for capital grants and valuable resources to grow their businesses. The MEC consists of regional events throughout the year, culminating in a National Finale. Eligible participants must own at least 51% of a legally registered U.S. business, be 21 years or older, and demonstrate financial need. The competition focuses on early-stage and social-impact businesses that positively affect the military and veteran community.Participants engage in a comprehensive process that includes:
- Submitting an online application with business details and video pitches
- Attending mandatory speed coaching sessions
- Pitching to judges in private sessions
- Potentially advancing to pitch live in front of an audience
Grant amounts vary, with regional events offering $1,000 to Semi-Finalists and an additional $1,000 to First Place winners. The National Finale, held at the Military Influencer Conference, awards larger prizes of $15,000, $6,000, and $4,000 for the top three finishers respectively. Winners must complete compliance requirements within 90 days, including impact surveys and videos. The Second Service Foundation also provides ongoing support and follow-up for up to five years post-participation. This program not only offers financial support but also provides valuable networking, mentoring, and educational opportunities for military entrepreneurs. By participating in the Military Entrepreneur Challenge™, applicants gain exposure, refine their business skills, and potentially secure the capital needed to take their ventures to the next level.
